Over a year later, any excitement surrounding Lynch at draft time still seems ridiculous. Any optimism surrounding him now is even more so. The 23-year old failed to win the starting job over Trevor Siemian — which isn’t exactly a high bar — last season. And may lose it in camp this year. In the two games he started last year with Siemian hurt, Lynch was abysmal, averaging just six yards per attempt and putting up a QBR. If the Broncos don’t already regret picking him in the first round, it won’t be long before they do.
President Trump's decision to call for mass cuts suddenly makes these anthem protests about much more than whether you happen to think that one currently unsigned quarterback is being unfairly blackballed by the NFL. There are players in the league right now , inspired by Kaepernick, who are raising a fist or sitting on the bench or taking a knee before opening kickoff each week. Other players might disagree with the protesters' stance and/or their chosen method of expressing it, but there is an important distinction to be made between the existence of a reasonable, respectful difference of opinion, and the insidious suggestion from a bombastic politician that holding a given opinion renders one unfit to do their job.
